You may have noticed our blog activity has slowed down recently, well unfortunately we have some bad news to report. Branford Green Grocer will not be continuing on to the new year. We will be closing our doors by the end of the month. In our short time on the green we were proud to bring something new to town – something we still hope will take root some other way. We sincerely believe in the mission of eating locally. We in Branford need to support our local farmers, cheese makers, bakers, and other artisans.

We think Branford is a community at risk of losing more and more small businesses in the coming decade; its up to all of us to make sure that doesn’t happen. Thank you so much for your support since our opening, please do continue to patronize the folks who made our food including: Labella’s Farm, La Cuisine, and Vaiuso’s Farm.

We still hold out hope that Branford can join the rest of the shoreline area in hosting a Farmer’s Market some day. Until then, please seek out friendly farm stands. Or better yet, plant a garden! If you don’t have space in your yard – check out the Branford Community Garden

We are clearing out the store! everything is on sale except Stonehouse Olive Oil! Come in and stock up!!!

The New Haven Register recently profiled our favorite Connecticut Dairy brand, The Farmer’s Cow. We visited Graywall Farms in Lebanon – one of several farms in the collective, and it was not only beautiful but probably one of the cleanest farms we have ever seen! This is a great company with a terrific mission and a great product. Please continue to support CT dairy! (btw, their milk is always in stock at Branford Green Grocer!)

NH Register – Home Grown: Farmers group expands business

Join us in celebrating Branford Town Center’s Open House, Thursday December 10th. Many business along the town green will be participating with special offers and other treats. There will be caroling by Branford High’s Music Makers to add to the holiday ambiance as well.

We’re ringing in the holidays with a special store Holiday Party and as with any great holiday gathering, food will take center stage. We’re going to be offering tons of free samples, and special tastings. Local farmers, cheese makers and other area artisans will be on hand to talk about their food, all of which is sold in the store. Learn a little about your food!

Experts in nutritional counseling and sustainable living will be available for free consultation. Enjoy live music while you shop, put down those bags for a massage provided by an area day spa, and be sure to take advantage of one-day-only sales and specials throughout the store.

We wanted to do something special this year to thank you for your support and to celebrate our first several months in business! We are so thankful for all of you who have come to our store and taken an interest in what we’re doing. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far and are hoping to expand even further in the new year, but there isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t realize we wouldn’t be able to do any of it without you!
